Lowe’s & American Muslims

December 13, 2011

Lowe’s announced that it pulled its advertising from TLC’s reality show “All-American Muslim,”

Living in this great nation of ours provide us with freedoms that the Arab world can’t come close to, with this freedom comes also a responsibility to respect your fellow citizens.

Therefore having corporations such as Lowe’s pulling their ads from “All-American Muslim,” show on TLC. The show which premiered last month on TLC and chronicles the lives of five families who live in and near Dearborn, Mich., a Detroit suburb with a large Muslim and Arab-American population. This is Lowe’s right under First Amendment to express the corporation view at being an Anti-Semitic company.

The problem with Lowe’s lies on their own “Social Responsibility”, Diversity and Inclusion section (refer to their website ( ), they claim that the company focus on diversity & inclusion in four areas: Work Force, Customers, Suppliers & Community. What confuses me is that by showing an anti-Semitic view against a certain show on TLC, Lowe’s has diverted from their own code of conduct! They have created a hostile work environment for Muslim-American working at their company and the communities where this group resides.

Muslim-American should not be upset at Lowe’s, as I mentioned that is their right to do as they wish even if it is against their own code of conduct. What Muslim-American can do is boycott Lowe’s and starts shopping at Home Depot for example. American companies understand the value of the dollar; also the group can show its support by dumping (selling) stocks of Lowe’s or mutual fund that has Lowe’s stocks in it and purchase Home Depot stocks.

Robert Niblock the CEO of Lowe’s needs though to redefine its diversity section to include this wording: Recruiting, developing and retaining a diverse (Except people that of a Muslim faith) work force ensures a welcoming customer experience, enhances partnerships and strengthens community involvement.”

NOTE: Semitic/Semite refer to a member of any of various ancient and modern Semitic-speaking peoples originating in southwestern Asia, including; Akkadians (Assyrians and Babylonians), Eblaites, Ugarites, Canaanites, Phoenicians, Hebrews (Israelites, Judeans and Samaritans), Arameans, Chaldeans, Amorites, Moabites, Edomites, Hyksos, Arabs, Nabateans, Maganites, Shebans, Sutu, Maltese, Mandeans and Ethiopian Semites. While not all Muslims are Arabs, the prayers of the Muslims are done in Arabic.
